Trumbull Community Action Program's youth enrichment services program will
receive $4,500 from the Youngstown State University Center for Nonprofit
Leadership through the Pay It Forward Program.
Pay It Forward helps students learn how to be engaged citizens and to
understand the important role philanthropy plays in the health of local
communities. Students in three courses had a total of $13,500 to award to
regional nonprofit organizations. The students received 52 requests totaling
more than $283,000.
The Youth Enrichment Services Program provides Trumbull County students ages
8 to 13 with a safe place to go after school Monday through Thursday,
according to Human Resources Director Nick Jennings. Activities are
arranged, snacks are provided and the students can use the computer lab and
gym. The program is free for families that qualify and currently sees
between 13 and 20 students daily, Jennings said.
Pay It Forward is an academic student philanthropy project sponsored by the
Ohio Campus Compact. Its purpose is to develop a new generation of
philanthropists through a course-based, service-learning environment that
engages college students in hands-on philanthropy, grant making and service
while providing donations to nonprofits.
